4 Reasons Why Your Blogging Voice is Important

I was recently coaching a newer blogger when she expressed to me her frustration with finding her blogging voice. She said she didn’t understand why it mattered so much. We started talking about it and I came to realize how she felt is how I used to feel. In the past, I struggled so much with my blogging voice. I didn’t think it was important. I was a big freelance writer on professional topics when I blogged before It’s All BlogSense. I used that same tone and couldn’t figure out why my bounce rate was so high.

As I thought about the importance of a blogging voice and realizing that if two bloggers felt this way that even more probably do, I decided it would be a great to share 5 reasons why your blogging voice is important. I’m also going to make it super easy for you to find your blogging voice. Not only will I help you, but there will also be a survey to help you even more at the end!

1. It Adds Personality

When you read stories about a personal experience, the writer almost can’t help but insert their personality into the mix. The thing about blogging is you don’t have to be the perfect, you just have to be perfectly you. If you write conversationally, you will bring more people in. People love to be able to connect with bloggers through relating to their experiences.

2. It Will Lower Your Bounce Rate

I’m not saying that having a blogging voice is going to be the cure-all for your bounce rate, but when you become more fun and more you in your posts, the right readers will stay on your site. Readers will see how fun you are and will be way more inclined to click around to more posts. This will lower your bounce rate. That’s a major score for us bloggers!

3. You Will Have Less Stress

I think a lot of new bloggers are stressed about writing because they think it needs to be perfectly written. While your content should be top-notch, your writing can and should be conversational. This means you’ll be a lot more lax with your writing, which means you’ll be less stressed about your writing. Do you know what that means? That means you’ll also probably write more! Stressed writers put off writing and content writers can’t wait to write again.

4. Your Writing Will be Recognizable

When you have a blogging voice, you will write a certain way. This will make your writing recognizable. Someone might share a quote from your writing on social media and one of your dedicated readers will be able to say without being told, “THAT’S ______________’S POST!”

Write like you would talk in a conversation. Think about how you text. Using how you talk in everyday life is a great way to start finding your blogging voice. While this might not give you your full blogging voice, it will help you begin developing your style.

When you write about topics you are passionate about, your honest passion will shine through in your posts. You should try to write about what you’re passionate about as much as possible. Like for me, I am passionate about blogging, teaching, and earning an income from home. So, all of my posts show my passion.

As a blogger, you should have a blogging schedule setup. The more you write, the more time you will have to find your blogging voice. As you write, your voice will come out. You’ll be able to refine your voice as you see fit, but the more you write the more natural your voice will become.
