How to Brand Your Pinterest Boards & Why You Should

Many people create social media accounts for their blogs but treat them as completely separate entities. This is not the right way and I’m going to tell you why. Your social media accounts should be an extension of your blog. You want to be recognizable around the web, so when people see something that’s on-brand for your blog/brand people immediately know it’s you.

I’ll be honest about branding. You might not find your right brand style right off the bat. I know I didn’t. It took me a month or two of trial and error before I found what I felt was perfect for my blog and brand. That’s totally okay. What’s important is while you’re trying to find your long-term branding is that you make it consistent with your blog and social media accounts.

Pinterest isn’t like Facebook or Twitter when you can upload a cover similar to your blog header and call it a day. It’s more in-depth than that because it’s not exactly social media. It’s a visual search engine. It combines Instagram with Google.

If you want to know the number one way you’ll get and keep followers on Pinterest, it comes down to your Pinterest boards. You want to have styled Pinterest boards that are on-brand and attractive to your target audience. This means you should only have boards that surround the topics of interest to your target audience.

How to Brand Your Pinterest Boards:

When it comes to branding your Pinterest boards, there are three ways you can go about it. Some Pinterest users even use a combination of these three methods. It’ll be up to you to decide how you want to go about branding your Pinterest Boards.

Color Scheme:

You can brand your Pinterest according to your color scheme. You would only pin images that are in your brand’s color scheme. You would have to be careful in selecting what you pin and if you use BoardBooster, you would have to make sure you have it clearly setup to only pin and re-pin images within your color scheme.

Abby from Just a Girl and Her Blog is another one of my favorite bloggers and pinners. She is very inspiring. She also does a great job at sticking to a color scheme across her boards. If you aren’t following her, head on over to Pinterest to follow Abby. She pins awesome lifestyle and blog business pins. She’s awesome!

Style of Pins:

Another way you can brand your Pinterest boards is by only pinning a specific style of pins. Many bloggers tend to only pin pins with text on them. Usually, the text is a headline or an enticing phrase to get a click-through.

Elise McDowell from House of Brazen is one of my favorite bloggers, which I’m sure I’ve said a time or two ;), but she does an awesome job at only pinning images with text on them. You know that she’s a blogger only pinning solid informational things that provide value to new and seasoned bloggers. Pinterest is actually how I first found her a while back and I’ve been so grateful for all of her information she pins on her Pinterest account. She never disappoints. If you aren’t following her, head on over to Pinterest and follow Elise! You’ll be so glad you did!

Board Covers:

Creating your own board covers is a little more time-consuming, but is another way you can brand your Pinterest boards. Your followers will come to recognize your board covers. Maintaining a style for your board covers is definitely wise. You’ll want to stick to your brand’s color scheme and use good fonts that look nice together. You might even include a stock image in the background. The best part about creating your own board covers is you are in full control over them. I upload mine and link them to my blog.

Trisha from MomDot does a great job at creating her own board covers for each of her boards. You can create your own board covers like her for free using Canva, PicMonkey or GIMP. Trisha is a craft blogger. If you are also a craft blogger or crafts align with your Pinterest account, follow Trisha. She has some neat ideas pinned.

Combination:

You can also brand your Pinterest by using a combination of the above-named three waya you can brand your Pinterest account. You could combine all three or just select two. Combining a couple will really help your Pinterest boards stand out.

This is my Pinterest. As you can see, I combine pin styles with board covers to brand my Pinterest. I think it not only brands my Pinterest, but also creates a cleaner look. I pin things that relate to blogging and business. If you aren’t already following me, I’d love it if you headed over to Pinterest to follow me!

While branding your Pinterest might seem like a lot of work, it is worth it. Not only will your boards appear cleaner and on-brand, but you will also begin attracting more of the right kind of followers.
